Youtube.com has endless videos about Young Living Essential Oils - here's one about our diffusers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzKtFCM8wqA&list=PL27A742DE5D9FB28E  Our new site: www.NaturesMoldRx.com. This is the place where folks can find the latest information.  However, I will give you and all the folks on this chat group or others that you wish to share this information with the current protocol below.         The book has the complete step by step, spelled out better than anywhere else, although the protocol has evolved over time.
You see Young Living reduced the size of the pump on the diffuser that was used in the original testing my husband, Dr. Ed Close, did.  After testing it for a year, Dr. Close has been recommending Young Living's TheraPro Premium diffuser as the only one that works sufficiently for dealing with mold in buildings. That has been his recommendation for at least the past couple of years. The TheraPro Premium diffuser doesn't have the problems with the glass nebulizer and the plastic tubing that seemed to be a regular with past diffusers. However, it also requires that you order 2 bottles of Thieves oil when diffusing for at least 24 hrs.
If you do not have mold -- PREVENT MOLD

STEP One...
A.  Diffuse the Thieves blend of essential oils for 15 minutes every 3 hours, 3 days a week, or continuously for 8 hours once a week using the TheraPro Premium from Young Living. (Uses 2 - 15 ml bottles of Thieves essential oil every 24 hours.)  Use Thieves Household Cleaner for cleaning floors, tile, and any space where mold is a concern.

STEP 2-10...
B. If you have mold -- ELIMINATE MOLD AND KEEP IT FROM COMING BACK

1. SAMPLE -- Before diffusing, have samples collected by a professional to determine the type of mold, and whether it is toxic or not. Toxic mold must be dealt with differently than non-toxic mold. DO NOT diffuse Thieves oil before samples are collected.

2. DIFFUSE -- After samples have been collected, eliminate mold spores by continuously diffusing the Thieves Oil blend for 24-72 hours in the space(s) where mold was found. One (1) Young Living TheraPro Premium cold-air diffuser works well in spaces up to 1200 sq. ft. in size. If possible, and for best results, leave the room closed and sealed during this intensive diffusing. This will allow maximum penetration and absorption of the essential oil blend. As a safety precaution, it is not recommended that pets or humans be in the space during this intensive diffusing.

3. REPAIR LEAKS -- Repair all leaks and eliminate all sources of excess moisture.

4. CLEAN THOROUGHLY -- If sampling identifies NO toxic mold, then after diffusing has been completed clean visible mold and stains with Thieves Household Cleaner, undiluted. Use protective equipment and take precautions to avoid contact with and breathing mold spores while cleaning. If sampling identifies TOXIC MOLD, and you have not already done so, begin intensive diffusion of Thieves oil. Contact a professional mold remediation service to have water-damaged and mold-infested materials removed and properly disposed.

5. REMOVE, REPAIR, REPLACE and DIFFUSE again all affected areas. If sampling revealed no toxic mold, remove water– or mold-damaged materials; seal them in plastic for disposal. Non-toxic materials may be placed in normal garbage disposal containers. If sampling identified toxic mold, be sure to DIFFUSE Thieves oil again continuously for a minimum of 24 hours following removal of mold-infested materials.

6. RE-SAMPLE - Have your professional re-sample to be sure all sources of mold have been identified and re-mediated.

7. REPEAT -- If necessary, repeat steps 1 through 7.

8. REFINISH all affected areas.

9. DIFFUSE REGULARLY to prevent and protect against the recurrence of mold.
(See Item A, above, for details.)
Many people, especially those on limited budgets, do not want to sample before doing the rest of the protocol. There is no one to prevent you from diffusing without doing sampling. The benefits for sampling are many, but the really good news is that Dr. Close has been using this protocol successfully since 2005 and it has never failed. The biggest benefits for doing sampling are as follows:

1. You will know whether you have a hazardous mold and that can be very important for your health, mentally as well as physically.

2. Sometimes mold sources can be hidden and the "after" sampling can identify whether you have cleared all sources of mold.  This has happened a couple of times even when Dr. Close was doing the work.  He always does before and after sampling for engineering clients. Once he was sampling at a hospital and after doing the diffusing he still had mold, a very hazardous mold, showing up at high levels.  This caused him to do further investigation and he found that there was a stairwell that had leaks from the roof coming into a hallway adjacent to the rooms where he was testing, and there had been a window in one wall the adjoining wall that was not properly removed during renovations, and there was no water vapor barrier between that hallway and the surgical rooms he was testing.  So, mold spores from water pooling on the roof and running down through the stairwell were then finding their way through the improperly closed window portal into the ceiling and down into the surgery. When this was corrected and he diffused again, then the mold spores were gone. Finding and eliminating hidden sources of mold can be as important as diffusing.

3.  Homeowners are required to disclose whether they have ever had a mold problem in their home when they go to sell it.  If you have had "after" sampling done and it comes back clean, then you can prove the mold problem was solved and no longer exists.  This is a huge benefit when selling a home and nothing works as well as the Thieves products.  We have the data to prove it.

Those are the best reasons for sampling. There are others.

Here is the best news of all:
Even when people cannot remove all sources of moisture and mold, diffusing the Thieves oils and rotating through other oils on a regular basis, either 2-3 times a day for brief periods, OR once a week for 8 hours will keep mold spores at very low levels in any space.  Essential Oils are the only hazard-free mold prevention on the market today.

I hope this helps you and your friend, and others who are looking for help with this type of situation.

Happy Easter!
Jacqui Close

Hello Antoinette and others,
My husband and I happen to own a mold remediation business in Bend, Oregon.  I teach Continuing Education classes on Mold Remediation to Insurance Professionals. There is more to this subject than meets the eye, (pun intended---microscopically speaking!)

Dr. Close is an Industrial Hygienist and an expert on the effective use of Thieves oil blend to help in the remediation of mold. I have spoken with him on several occasions about this subject. His DVD and Book can be purchased at raindroptraining.com .
For educational purposes only, I will offer the following comments. It is important to understand that there are several steps involved. Mold requires food, warmth, and moisture to thrive. Thus, the moisture source must be addressed first. Then all visible signs of mold growth must be removed. Mold has microscopic "roots" that penetrate beneath the surface, which is why it comes back after cleaning the surface. Visible growth on soft goods like carpet, drywall, upholstered furniture, etc. cannot be cleaned but must be cut out including a wide area beyond the affected border of growth, and disposed of in an environmentally
safe and appropriate manner.

Pre- and post-testing of mold spore counts must be done in all affected areas, as well as an ambient mold spore count to determine the normal spore count in the environment. This is the only way to determine if your cleaning efforts are successful. Depending on the species of mold growing, whoever is cleaning in the area should wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment. Unaffected areas and HVAC vents should be sealed off.  Especially when a large building is involved, because of liability concerns, a professional third party is typically hired.

Cleaning hard surfaces with Thieves Household Cleaner and diffusion of Thieves in all affected areas, as outlined by Dr. Close in his DVD and book, is a wonderful way to take care of the mold spores that remain after all visible mold has been removed.  Renting a HEPA vacuum cleaner and air scrubbing equipment with HEPA filters may be required.

I hope this general information is helpful. Please consult a professional before you begin this project.  Best wishes, Cindy Maricle, CCI, BCRS, LSH

"Renting a HEPA vacuum cleaner and air scrubbing equipment with HEPA filters may be required."

While this is true and most of Cindy's post is extremely good information, I would add that you should not use a HEPA vacuum cleaner or air scrubbing equipment or fans to dry out wet areas while you are actually doing diffusing. This will pull the oils out of the air and diminish the effectiveness of the treatment. Sincerely,   Jacqui Close

Protocol for dealing with internal mold.
Happy Thursday PineHill Oilers...

Having experienced internal mold... what helped the affected area and internally was Thieves, Thieves Household Cleaner, ... more Thieves, Thieves Household Cleaner... and more Thieves, Thieves Household Cleaner...

Diffuse Thieves oil in affected area for a day... next day "suited up from head to toe" clean the mess up with Thieves Household Cleaner undiluted..... if necessary repeat process again.

2 Inner Defense capsules right after breakfast... hour later full capsule of Thieves
oil blend. Repeat every 6 to 8 hours... before bed take 2 Life 5 to replenish good bacteria in
the body.

Also drink plenty of purified or ionized (alkaline) water... half your weight in ounces during the course of the day. Plus 3 Lemonade Cleanse drinks during the course of your day... 10 to 12 ounces purified or ionized (alkaline) water with juice of ½ organic lemon and its zest plus a drop of YL Lemon oil with a pinch of cayenne pepper.

Once you are dealing with internal mold... there is a need to eliminate gluten-based foods, dairy, mushrooms, shellfish and sweets except for apples, pears’/2 teaspoon of Manuka honey is very good to take with a drop of Sacred Frankincense oil... also teaspoon of coconut oil with 1 drop of Sacred Frankincense.
Peppermint and Spearmint oils are also great to add a drop in water.  If you experience headaches with Peppermint oil (due to blood pressure) use Spearmint - this helps tremendously. Incorporate food choices that are organic and natural...

Hydrate your skin after a shower or bath with either coconut oil or sunflower oil with
the same oils listed above.

These are just some suggestions when dealing with mold... :)
Have a wonderful week..
Teri Secrest :)

Getting-rid-of mold Testimonials:
I would like to tell you of my experience with mold. I drive a semi-truck over the road. A few months ago, I noticed that the carpet was always wet in front of my bunk, in the sleeper portion of my truck. I couldn't for the life of me figure out where it was coming from, and neither could the shop guys at work. One day I stopped on the on-ramp to the interstate to let my dog out and to catch up on my DOT logs. The length of my truck was leaning downhill on the passenger side. When I walked around that side, I noticed (couldn't miss it!) that water was gushing out all along the bottom of the cab, its entire length! I was shocked but couldn't find where it was coming from. Upon returning to Lincoln, the shop finally discovered that the drain tubes for the AC/heater unit, which have filters in them, were completely blocked. The condensation water was backing up into the cab, an easily fixed thing.
Meanwhile, over the couple of months before this was discovered, a healthy batch of mold had accumulated and was growing under the carpet in my truck. I could smell it, and I was also sure it was contributing to my constant tiredness and not feeling "quite right." I started diffusing Thieves and/or Purification 24-7. Within a day my truck no longer smelled funky, and I was feeling much better. I believe diffusing these essential oils kept me and my dog from getting sick (until the shop finally figured out what the problem was) by eliminating the toxins in my truck's interior environment. In my own home, I diffuse equal parts of Purification and Lemongrass almost every day for an hour or more. I have cats, a dog, and two birds. I also smoke. My home smells fresh and clean, even on those hot days when my house is entirely closed up with the AC running.  Deborah Reynolds

My father worked in an office in a building that had been flooded several times. He always had trouble with being congested and sinus "trouble" afterwards. We thought it was probably mold in the floor and walls, but the company would not test, or replace. My father always seemed to have a "cold" and trouble breathing through his nose, but also always had a "runny" nose. I talked him into putting a diffuser in his office and diffusing Thieves and Eucalyptus.  He no longer has sinus headaches or the congestion, he says "I can finally breath again!"  ~ Lisa Weinhold ~

Stephanie, and other oilers

Congratulations! I use 1 capful of Thieves soap (undiluted) in every load. If there are stains I may add Borax or Oxy-clean. I love Thieves, and it works great. I started using it after smelling the sour smell in my new FL washer, which I discovered was mold/fungus in the sitting water in the washer. You are "supposed" to buy a washing machine cleaner ($$) and use monthly to control this! Thieves took care of it easily. NEVER have had that smell recur. NEVER have had a sudsing issue even when I use a squirt of Dawn on oil stains.  ~ Sandie Isbister

We recently moved from California to Utah into a home that was built in the 1880s. It wasn't until I was deep cleaning that I realized there were some serious mold issues!! I got some samples and had them tested. There were several strains of mold, common and not-so-common.
We'd moved to an area that had no other homes available for rent, and I was panicked. I'm extremely sensitive to mold, having been "poisoned" by black mold about 10 years ago.  There was nowhere else to go while our new home is being built.
I immediately got out my Thieves Cleaner, Thieves Oil, Diffuser, rubber gloves, and face mask! I sprayed the Thieves Cleaner straight onto the affected areas and just left it for several hours. I began diffusing Thieves Oil and did so for the next 48 hours.  In the basement, where there was a lot of mildew and mold, I sprayed a mixture of Thieves Oil, Thieves Cleaner, and grain alcohol directly onto the brick walls. Then I left the house to rest.
The next day when I came back, the black mold in the cupboards that had been so unsightly had almost disappeared!  I sprayed the affected areas again, soaking liberally, and wiped them down after a few minutes. The mold is gone!  In the basement, the same thing had happened. I resprayed with my mixture and it is also GONE!
I coaxed the carpet cleaner to use my Thieves Cleaner instead of his citrus stuff (which I have an allergy to). He reluctantly did so and was thrilled and amazed at how clean the carpets were. I was so happy because they were disinfected, smelled great, and are so soft now.
I continue to diffuse Thieves, Purification, and Eucalyptus a couple of times a week.  The mold issues are gone. I can breathe without any problems. I LOVE THIS STUFF!!  ~ Michelle Manning-Kogler

I purchased a thirteen year old teak table and chair set from my sister and brother-in-law this summer when they upgraded to a more contemporary glass and metal outdoor set. It was evident that the wood set had not been cleaned or oiled for several years. After doing a little research on how to clean teak, I discovered that the silver-gray coloration that occurs in the wood is actually mold! Everything I read recommended a special teak cleaner that contained a chemical used to kill the mold.
I had recently read Dr. Close's protocol for cleaning mold out of homes using Thieves Cleaner, so I decided to give it a try on the teak. I put the cleaner in a spray bottle and diluted it partially with water. I sprayed the cleaner onto the wood and used a variety of cleaning brushes to scrub the mold away. Some spots that were particularly "dirty" took a second spraying/scrubbing, but the Thieves Cleaner did a beautiful, thorough job. After all the pieces were cleaned I oiled the set and now they look like new. ~ Courtney Becker ~

First experience:  My brother introduced this oil to his naturopathic doctor who had mold in his basement at his clinic. The doctor called in a mold specialist to test the mold. It was confirmed. One bottle of Thieves oil was diffused, and then the specialist was called back to do another test. He confirmed that the mold was dead.  Second experience:  One bottle of Thieves oil was diffused in my parents' basement for roughly 24 hours, and then the mold was gone. Everything was washed down with the Thieves household cleaner, and now the whole house smells "fresh" again.  Mary Raitt

In the areas I go in Africa is common. I went during the rainy season and noticed my room had mold growing down the wall. I diffused Thieves in my travel diffuser, and within 24 hours you could see the mold drying on the wall. We were then able to remove it.
It has been 17 months, and the room is still clear after rainy season! And let us not forget the wonderful aroma. I also am a nurse and use the Thieves Hand Sanitizer daily.     More so at work I noticed a huge difference as it DOES NOT get gummy like the other hand sanitizers I have used in the past.  ~Rainey Wallace

When my husband was out of town I decided to remove a built in hutch that was located in our kitchen. Upon tearing the hutch out I discovered black mold behind the wall. This led to a kitchen remodel that only unearthed such toxic levels of mold that we were forced to leave our home while they attempted to remove the damage.  I began to research mold and was not very encouraged that we would ever be able to live in or sell our home. Yet, when I came across Dr. Edward Close's research on Thieves oil and its impact on mold I knew I had to try it. I purchased a Therapro diffuser (uses no water), Thieves oil and Lemongrass oil from Young Living.  After continuous diffusion for 48 hours per 1000 square feet, the mold has disappeared along with the pet odors that were in our home. Talk about an added bonus! We are now ready to move back into our home and I am fully confident that it is safe. Without Young Living, this could have been a disaster for our family.  ~Tammie Dunavant

Diffusing Thieves oil has helped me conquer the mold problem I was having in my bathroom. I first cleaned up the walls as best I could. Then diffused the Thieves oil for at least 24 hours in the bathroom. I kept the bathroom door closed to keep the diffusion in the bathroom.  It has been 5 months and there is no sign of the mold! Before I did this diffusion process I was cleaning this funky mold off the walls twice a week.  ~Katie Kastrup ~

As the environment is naturally moist on my boat especially in the early morning hours, mold can be a problem. I noticed I started sneezing a lot when I was on the boat and was curious why, so I started looking for dust and pulled up everything that wasn't nailed down.
When I noticed black splotches under cushions, which I recognized as mold, I immediately cleaned them off with Thieves and vowed not to have to deal with that again. I now diffuse Thieves everyday for at least 20 minutes and have no more occurrence of the mold and have quit sneezing as well.  ~ Leigh Christian ~

At the Convention of 2012 we heard the amazing story of how to eliminate mold using Thieves oil products. After returning home, we were visiting with a friend and he was complaining about constant headaches when he was in his house and he wondered if he had mold in his basement. We shared what we had just learned about how to eliminate mold.
He purchased a bottle of Thieves oil to diffuse in his basement as well as a bottle of Thieves Household Cleaner. Within days his headaches were better and within a short period of time they were totally gone!. He was amazed!  ~ Jackie Moe ~

My daughter moved into an apt in Philadelphia and to my horror when I visited the ceiling and upper part of the walls (15 ft high)were black with mold. I asked her to diffuse THIEVES and when I came for my next vist you would have thought the place had been newly painted- everything was snow white and no trace of mold. Thank goodness. After the floods this summer I have been recommending the Therapro diffuser with Thieves to everyone. ~ Kristen Larsen ~
